Advice and planning, not IT support
IT consulting, every i dotted
IT consulting services in plain words: we go through the technology your business runs on, down to what to keep, what to replace and what it costs.
A fitting is a first call.
IT consulting is paid advice about the technology a business runs on. With Wico, that means we go through your programs, devices and paid accounts, give each one a verdict (keep, replace or cancel) and write a plan you keep: what to do, in what order and roughly what it costs. Sometimes the plan says to buy nothing.
What a sample shop runs on
- Accounting program Not checked Keep
- Office laptops Not checked Replace
- Paid chat app Not checked Cancel
The plan, in writing
- Keep the accounting program.
- Replace the laptops next spring.
- Cancel the chat app nobody opens.
To buy today: nothing.
Staged in your browser with a made-up shop. It isn’t advice for your business.
What you get
- A list of every program, device and paid account your business pays for
- A keep, replace or cancel verdict for each one, with the reason
- A written plan: what to do, in what order, and roughly what it costs
- The plan itself, yours to carry out with anyone
What we look at
- What you run on. Every program, device and paid account: what it does for you, what it costs a month, when it renews and whose name it’s in.
- Keep, replace or cancel. A verdict for each one, with the reason in a sentence. This is where a paid tool nobody opens would show up.
- Choosing a new system. When something has to change, a short list of options compared on what your business actually does, with what each costs over a year. If no product does the job properly, the plan says so. That’s when custom software is worth a look, or AI automation for routine work that eats hours every week.
- Your website’s setup. Who holds the domain, where the site is hosted and what that costs. If the site itself needs work, that’s web development.
- Upgrades and their cost. What to replace and roughly when, with an estimate, so a big purchase can be planned months ahead.
- Buying nothing. If what you have already does the job, the plan says so, and you buy nothing.
Advice, not IT support
This is advice and planning. We don’t run a help desk, answer calls at night, monitor your systems or manage your computers month to month. If the plan says you need ongoing support, it also says what kind, and what to ask a support company before you sign.
It isn’t the right service if:
- You need someone to fix things as they break, or to run your computers month to month. Look for a managed IT provider (often called an MSP).
- You need a security audit or compliance work, such as HIPAA or PCI. Look for a firm that specializes in it.
- You already know what to buy and need someone to install it. A local IT support company can do that.
Who it’s for
- A small or mid-size business that pays for programs and devices, with nobody whose job is to keep track of them
- An owner about to make a big technology purchase who wants a second opinion first
- A business that has grown and isn’t sure what it started with still fits
- A renewal or contract coming up, and you’re not sure it’s worth it
Tried before it’s finished
-
Fitting.
A first call. You tell us what the business runs on and what’s bothering you. We tell you whether you need a consultant at all.
-
Toile.
A tailor tries a test garment in cheap cloth before cutting the real fabric. Our toile is a first draft of the list and the plan, in plain words, which you read before anything is bought.
-
Changes.
You mark what’s wrong or won’t work for you, such as a switch planned for your busiest month. We change it.
-
The dot.
The last pass: every step has its reason, an estimated cost and a month. Then the plan is yours.
What to bring to the first call
None of this is required. Each one makes the first call shorter.
- Last month’s bills for software, subscriptions and internet
- A rough count of computers, phones and printers, and how old they are
- Who holds the main login for email, the website’s domain and the accounting program
- Anything renewing in the next six months
- What annoys your staff most, in their own words
What sets the price
There’s no price on this page because the size of the job sets it. You get a price after the fitting, before any work starts.
- How many people, devices and paid accounts there are
- How much is written down already. If nobody knows what renews when, finding out is part of the work.
- Whether the plan includes choosing a new system, which means comparing options in detail
- How far ahead the plan looks
Whoever you hire, ask these
- Is this advice, or ongoing support? Who do I call when something breaks?
- Will I get the plan in writing, and can I use it with another company?
- Will you tell me when I don’t need to buy anything?
- Whose name will new accounts and licences be in?
Straight answers
What do IT consulting services include?
With us: a review of the programs, devices and paid accounts your business runs on, a keep, replace or cancel verdict for each, help choosing new systems, a plan for upgrades and their costs, and that plan in writing, which some firms call an IT strategy or roadmap.
How is IT consulting different from managed IT?
IT consulting is advice: what to keep, change or buy, and when. Managed IT services are ongoing support for a monthly fee, such as a help desk, monitoring and repairs. We only do the first. Many IT firms sell the two together, so ask which one you’re paying for.
How much does IT consulting cost?
It depends on how many people, devices and accounts there are, and how much is already written down. You get a price after the fitting, before any work starts.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of the job. You get a date along with the price.
Does a small business need an IT consultant?
Not always. If what you have works and nothing big is coming up, you may not. It helps most before a large purchase, a renewal or a move, or when nobody knows what the business pays for. If you don’t need us, we’ll say so.
Do you work in the Miami area?
Yes. We’re in Miami-Dade County, in North Miami Beach.
Will you carry out the plan?
The plan is advice. You can carry it out yourself, with your staff or with any company you choose. Where it calls for a website, an app or custom software, those are things we build, and you’re free to hire someone else.
